Obviously it's nice to take advantage of the outdoors and nature during the summer, but, sometimes the weather does get to just be too much and you need a break from the sunshine and 99 degree temperature. On those occasions, there are actually plenty of fun things to do aside from sitting inside and watching TV. Check out our kid-friendly list of indoor activities.
Go to the library
Let the kids pick out a few books to take home and read, or, read them in the library. Most libraries have really nice kids areas that make children more inclined to take a look at books and become interested in reading. Also take a look at your local library's activities calendar because many libraries host a variety of fun, education summer programs.
Arts and crafts
So much better than being glued to the TV! Scroll through Pinterest and find a craft idea that is both realistic and will keep your kids entertained.
Perfect on a hot day! Whether you want to keep it simple by simply pouring fruit juice into ice cube trays and sticking tooth picks in them, or, want to get fancy and find DIY popsicle recipes online, this activity is sure to keep the little ones interested.
Home movie day
No...we don't mean watching movies at home...we mean filming your own movie at home! Take out the video camera, or, even your cell phone camera, and let the kids come up with a funny plot line to film. They'll have a blast filming and watching it!
If the weather is just not tolerable, have an indoor picnic! Lay out a blanket to sit on and snack on finger sandwiches and snacks.
Pull all the board games out of the closet and have a game day! Invite family friends over and enjoy some friendly competition!
