It feels like the year has flown by! We've barely even had a winter yet, in terms of the weather, which could be the reason that it feels almost unbelievable that December is just about over. But, whether you're happy about it or not, 2016 is right around the corner. With a new year comes...the famous 'new years resolutions'. Yes, you probably make these resolutions every year, but, whether or not to keep them and stick to your word is another story. The trick to making resolutions is to pledge to do things that are actually feasible. When making your resolutions this year, pledge to do things that you know you can definitely do. Yes, they should be a little challenging, but not so challenging that you'll never be able to accomplish them. Just because you aren't pledging to complete a triathlon doesn't mean that your resolutions are 'bad'. Below we have a few little resolution ideas and pledges that you can make to yourself to refresh your life. Start 2016 off with a bang...and the feeling that you've got your life together!
Your car, your infamous 'junk drawer', and your closets.
These three spaces are ones that you probably access and use on a daily basis. Tidy up, get organized, and your car rides will be more peaceful, you'll more easily be able to find a pencil on the whim when you need it, and picking out your ensembles in the morning will be a much quicker process (so you can sleep later!). The real trick is to keep these spaces organized for the entirety of the year...not just for a week or so after you initially clean them.
Eating healthier is great for every aspect of you—internally and externally. Eating right not only keeps your body going, but it helps your hair, skin, etc. We're not saying you need to try a crazy, hard-to-follow diet, but just simply vow to take more notice of what you put into your body. Consider weekly meal planning to assure that you don't make last-minute TV dinners every night after work. Replace sugary snacks with fruits and veggies, and just make other simple changes to your diet. A little bit of a change can go a long way.
Exercise one extra time per week.
We know everyone has a hectic life and getting to the gym everyday can be impossible—but you don't have to go to the gym to get a good workout. Commit some extra time one night a week to do an at-home workout, be it on the treadmill, yoga mat, or going for a run outside. Time spent exercising is NEVER time wasted.
Go to sleep a half an hour earlier every night.
An extra half hour of sleep can really make a huge difference. You'll start your mornings off feeling much more refreshed, meaning you'll be more focused and will accomplish more. Turn the TV off early, put your smartphone down, and get some shut eye! It's especially a good idea to go to sleep early on Sunday nights. Starting your Monday off well rested makes for a better week.
Spend more time in person with family and friends.
This new year, make the resolution to spend more face-to-face time with your loved ones. Technology is great and does make communication so much easier, but, it's always best to see your friends and family in person. Pledge to set aside some time to get together in person, be it for a weekend outing or just a quick coffee date to catch up. We all live fast-paced lives and often don't realize how much time goes by without seeing our loved ones in person.
Sure, these pledges might seem cliche, but they are ones that are not only completely do-able, but also will have a large impact on your life.
ENRICH YOUR MIND:
Read one book a month.
Reading is such a healthy hobby. It's relaxing and enriches your mind. Read whatever you want! Whether you read on the train commute to work, or right before bed, just pledge to read one new book a month. You can even consider getting your friends in on the pledge and starting a little book club or book trading circle.
Try a new hobby.
Again, we know everyone has busy lives and you might feel like you have no time in the world to try out a new hobby, but life is short, so make the time. Start quilting, sign up for a community center class that you've always been interested in, or join an adult sports club team. You'll enjoy yourself, make new friends, and hobbies keep you young!
We at BeSpoken Media PR wish you a happy and healthy New Year. We hope you find much joy and success in 2016 and are able to accomplish your resolutions!
