Today, December 1st, 2015, is the fourth #GivingTuesday. What is Giving Tuesday? It’s an effort created by the 92nd Street Y, in NYC, to connect individuals, communities, and organizations, all in the name of charity and giving. Giving Tuesday is always the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. To learn more about this day of giving and how you can participate, visit givingtuesday.org.
This #GivingTuesday, many companies are initiating special efforts and fundraisers to give a little extra this holiday season. Below are a few that stand out to us!

+SocialGood: This #GivingTuesday, make a pledge to donate your time, or, #GivingHours. Time is said to be more valuable than anything money can buy, and it's a donation from the heart because your time is something you can never get back. Through plussocialgood.com make a pledge today to donate x amount of hours to x organization (it can be any organization—choose your favorite, and one that you will really be able to volunteer with). You don't need to necessarily complete those volunteer hours today, but make sure you do hold up to your commitment! By sharing your pledge on social media, you will encourage others to pledge their time as well.
Sackcloth & Ashes: For every blanket you purchase from this online retailer, one blanket is donated to a local homeless shelter near you (based on your shipping zip code). One for you, and one for someone in need! Shop at sackclothandashes.com.
Ebay: Ebay has unveiled their ‘charity shop’ to help shoppers donate this holiday season. Proceeds from all items listed in this category are donated to charity (the specific charity depends on the item). You can either shop by item, or shop by the charity you want your purchase to support. When sellers list their products, they have the option to select what portion of the proceeds they want to donate to the charity of their choosing. This is a pretty neat idea! Find more information and shop at ebay.com.
Toys 'R' Us: On Giving Tuesday, for every retweet of Shaquille O'Neal's (@SHAQ) #payitforward tweet, Toys 'R' Us will donate one toy to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. Additionally, throughout the entire holiday season, shoppers can donate toys to the Marine Toys for Tots collection boxes found in Toys 'R' Us stores. More information is available at toysrus.com.
JCPenney: JCPenney Cares will donate $100,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America on Giving Tuesday. JCPenney will also be inviting children, through Boys & Girls Club, to their local JCPenney store to select holiday gifts for their families. Additionally, starting today, JCPenney will offer shoppers the chance to round their purchases up to the nearest dollar and donate this money to their foundation, JCPenney Cares. So, get shopping! Learn more about JCPenney's Giving Tuesday and holiday season initiatives at JCPenney.com.
Squarespace: Squarespace will be donating $100,000 on Giving Tuesday to code.org, a nonprofit that works to bring computer science education to all children. Squarespace subscriptions purchased today will also be 20% off (use the code GIVINGTUESDAY). Our own website is created through Squarespace, so we already love this company, but now we love them even more!
Wedderspoon: In honor of Giving Tuesday, Wedderspoon will be doubling its donation to the Rodale Institute on every sale of KFactor22 Manuka Honey. The donated money will go towards supporting honey bee conservation initiatives. It's a win-win situation, right? You get some delicious and beneficial Manuka Honey for yourself (or a friend, if you are gifting it!) and get to support honey bees at the same time. Shop at wedderspoon.com.
This #GivingTuesday, consider donating by making a purchase from a company listed above, donating to a charity of your choice, or volunteering your time in your community. Do some research—many non-profits have support from corporations who will match your donations on Giving Tuesday, which is great. Every little bit helps. Let's kick off this holiday season with lots of giving!
